How come when you go to an open house, sometimes you'll see that the agent has a sign in sheet and is asking you to "sign in?" What's the purpose of the sign in sheet anyway?

Not only for obvious safely reasons, sign in sheets offer extended communication. Open houses are held to gain more exposure to the property for sale. If you are a buyer and you buyer's agent is busy with another client, open houses are perfect because if allows you to still see the home even though your agent is busy elsewhere. On the sign-in sheet, there is an area for you to put your agent's information on there so that the listing agent can reach out to them and find out if there is an offer coming in, etc. If you don't have an agent, sign in sheets are good to contact the open house attendee and let them know any new information about the home that has happened. For example, if an offer comes in, the agent will reach out to anybody who has shown interest and maybe gain somebody else putting in an offer as well.
